FAQ: Plain Speaking on MBA Application Questions

Question:
During times of economic crisis and high unemployment is it worth spending a lot of money on an MBA education?

Answer:
Today, we live in a climate of fear: Fear of change, fear of anticipation, global shifts in economic gravity no to mention the usual self-doubts and anxieties of the average and even above average business professional.

This is no time to be afraid, but a time to grasp opportunity and to make things happen. The business world has been transformed and we live in a time where any professional must adapt to changing circumstances. Lifetime employment and job security belong to the times of our grandparents.

We must be flexible, well educated, multi-cultural and pragmatic. The sine quo non of today's business area is the MBA. Is it possible to succeed without an MBA? Of course it is for exceptional individuals. Most of us however need the pedigree and training. In this light, an MBA and even an EMBA is definitely the way forward.

Although the degree is not a magic wand, it will enhance your capabilities faster and with more clout than any other form of professional training. You will gain access to new opportunities, networks, alter your horizons, and step up to the leadership roles you crave.

At WCW, we tell our clients that there are global opportunities for those keen to break the bonds of conformity.

Whether you interests lie in banking, finance, management consultancy, industry or communications and marketing, there is a wide selection of first-rate business school programmes in Europe, Asia, and Australia to rival the traditional programmes in North America. Any one can benefit you if you have the ambition and drive to succeed.

The Steps To Choose:
  • Evaluate the direction you want your career path to take
  • Identify what matters most to you and why?
  • Select the business school and programme, which meet your aspirations
Then, take the proverbial plunge. You won't regret your decision.

Question:
Do I need an MBA coach?

Answer:
Today, the competition to get accepted to any leading MBA or EMBA programme is so intense that the business schools are spoiled for choice. Although historically, application trends change over the years, we are currently in an upward spiral where the leading MBA programmes are now recruiting from global elites. The criteria can change form year to year. Unofficial details can get your file dropped even if you have the credentials on paper.

At Whitefield Consulting Worldwide, we have the training, expertise, and have seen the trends evolve over the last 25 years. Believe me when I tell you, nothing in the MBA application is what it appears to be. To apply successfully, you need to understand the tenants of management consulting and strategic marketing. Most experts in these fields find the MBA application an anathema. Imagine other business professionals.

Whether you choose to apply solo or with the help of a professional, make sure that your files show why you are unique and why you deserve a seat over somebody else. If you can manage to do so, great. Do it.

Otherwise, I would seriously counsel getting real professional help. Don't loose time through false pride. Everyone needs help to do something. Either it is a question of time or expertise. Even large corporations hire experts, so why shouldn't you?

If you are worried about the cost, think again. How much is it worth for you to go to a top 20 MBA? What will your salary increase be? You will see by examining statistics published by the FT that you are making an excellent investment. All the more reason to invest in the best professional help you can get.

Question:
Can Whitefield Consulting Worldwide really get me accepted at one of the top business school programmes?

Answer:
Following a professional evaluation of your career to date for which there is no cost, WCW will give you a frank analysis, telling you point blank whether your business school targets are realistic.

One thing we won't do is waste your time or money. We understand the emotional investment as well as the other key determinants. If you have what it takes, we will push you to the nth power. We might recommend MBA programmes you never considered, confirm your dream list, or suggest alternatives.

What we won't do is be "yes" men or women. We will stand behind your candidacy from the opening stages, idea generation to the final round with the appropriate interview training and strategy. When you are accepted, we all celebrate.

Question:
Should I reapply if I was rejected last year?

Answer:
Absolutely, but first let us conduct a free professional evaluation on your behalf as well as examining what you did the last time. A new strategic game plan will need to be built to give you the tools to get accepted this time round.

We have handled MBA candidates, who wanted to re-apply. With the necessary strategy in place, I am pleased to say that WCW was able to deliver a happy ending to a previously sad story.
