Sleep is one of life’s necessities, yet very few people actually get enough. We human’s run around like martyrs, stating how little we’ve slept lately, yet wondering why the ice cream is in the cabinet and the cereal is in the freezer. Why were we getting cereal and ice cream at the same time anyway?
I know this is a piece of the American culture – the over promised, over committed, and over worked. Yet, WHO is making the choices? Yep, you are.
Each of us makes choices and allows ourselves to become over committed, over worked and over promised. I’m certainly included in that group.
So what are we doing that’s so important that we’re sacrificing our own sleep – and health – and ice cream – as a result?
For me recently, it was moving my mother from one state to another. There was an entire brigade of people sacrificing sleep in order to help her get things in order to the tune of being awake for nearly 24 hours. And, not one of us would’ve changed that choice.
However, what’s the price?
What are we in such a hurry in life to create, or do, or have, or be? And, do we know? Yes, I’ve heard the expression, “I can sleep when I’m dead.” True. Though what are you sacrificing while you’re alive?
Are you missing sleep to move your life forward, or are you just getting by in the present? What makes it worth it?
