The MBA Samurai Fostering Goodness: MBA Coaching
Andrew Scharf discusses how the MBA Samurai fosters goodness in all their professional and non-professional activities
Viewpoint by Andrew Scharf, Head of the WCW Group
To be a good professional contrary to received notions by cynics and pundits, it is important to have heart and mind in perfect equilibrium. As fundamental as this sounds, it is not enough on its own. MBA Samurai must also be noble and mindful of global affairs with real drive and energy. We are not the only ones to live in times of hardship, poverty, rapid expansion, and shifting economic climates. Since many of us have important roles, which we play, it is necessary not to forget the ordinary people and the debt of responsibility we must exercise.
This reminds me of a story of someone I once met in a small Himalayan village. He lived in a small tumbledown thatched cottage with a leaky roof, and his abode was scant shelter indeed. His only thought was how he could shelter all the people he saw homeless and wandering in the streets of small towns and villages he came into contact with. In other words, although he was clearly not living the life of Riley or that of someone from Morgan Stanley, he wanted everyone without a roof to have one. You cannot help but be touched by this sentiment.
By Helping Others, We Help Ourselves
In this manner of speaking, the question arises: Do I or should I feel responsibility for the welfare of my community. The answer should echo in the hills: Yes!
None of us lives in a vacuum. We all need and depend on one another in one manner or form or other. Networking does not necessarily mean working with or doing favours for only people who hold an MBA or an MBA from your alma mater. It means holding hands across the divide and showing good will and cheer whatever the circumstances at hand.
The MBA Samurai should act like Confucius wrote in his Analects: ” A man of benevolence never worries; a man of wisdom is never in two minds; a man of courage is never afraid.’
The petty person will not seek out MBA coaching nor will strive to become an MBA samurai. Such an individual concentrates on personal advantage above of else no matter the consequences, and will pursue that advantage no matter where it leads. An MBA Samurai by contrast, will not seek out short cuts at the expense of others. He or she will take the narrow road, which is the most appropriate, and follow it from the beginning to the end with diligence and grace.
We are not taking about fixed stations in life or accepting social constraints here. We are talking about walking tall in the light of grace. As Samuel Johnson once stated, “patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel”. MBA Samurai cherish the true aspects of a globalised world because they recognise that we belong to one family, speak one language, and ultimately all share the same aspirations.
MBA Morals
Morality is often talked about today because of an abundance of scandals and bad behaviour. True MBA coaching will show you how to think about morality in its proper light and how self-cultivation via an MBA can make this not only possible but also a feasible path to the accomplishments you would like to generate. The MBA admissions committees have their stated codes of behaviour and rules. Each top MBA has dignity above personal need. However, it is the duty of the MBA participants to live by a strict code of conduct so that future ridicule and resentment does not further fall on professionals who are well-educated because of the bad actions of a few, most notably given excessive press coverage.
The petty MBA applicants will constantly seek to curry favour when they think this behaviour will get them somewhere or something. If you make a promise, keep it. Do not use words idly or worse, turn to the sounds of abuse. Petty MBA applicants by nature are schemers, always looking for their next big deal. The MBA samurai does not need to look. The big deals come to him or her on the basis of real merit, talent, and behaviour.
Broken Promises
Last year, we received a phone call from a MBA pursuant. His voice was unhappy with anger. He had worked with pseudo-MBA coaches who milked him for huge sums of money in exchange for the honeyed words of his target MBA schools. He had originally thought, how sweet the words. The advantages must surely be mine; not thinking that the work he asked for was doing him a disservice. Following this path, he was of course, rejected.
The reason for his call to WCW was to see if we could turn things around for him. He was looking for more honeyed promises. What he found out was that there were no honeyed promises to be had. Just the promise of professionalism, commitment and hard work. And with those words of hard work, he melted back into the phone line never to be heard from again.
MBA Challenges
If you are contemplating an MBA, recognise the challenge on which you are about to embark. Start with the idea of perseverance and constancy. MBA coaching will train you to acquire the right habits and attitudes or at least show you how to begin their cultivation. If you are full of ambition, then the path of the MBA Samurai is for you. Only one word of caution is necessary: Commitment.
Commit yourself and your MBA dream will manifest. Commit yourself and not only will you be successful but you will also become a guide and light to your community. Blossom where you are planted or where you would like to be. Blossom and thrive no matter how bitter the climate becomes.
Fulfilment is just waiting for you to grab the initiative.
